Acceptable use

Use CopyPaster only for content you are authorized to share. Do not use the service for unlawful material, harassment, malware, phishing, copyright infringement, attempts to disrupt the service, or automated activity that bypasses rate limits.

Pairing and recipient access

Sharing starts when two devices pair through a QR code or invitation link. Invitations are single-use and expire after five minutes. Keep them private: someone with an unused invitation can claim the receiving connection. You are responsible for choosing the intended recipient and for the content you send.

The recipient may save or copy what you share. Disconnecting or clearing your own tab does not revoke content already received.

Transfers and browser permissions

Direct sharing accepts any file type up to 500 MB per file. Both browsers must remain open and connected during a transfer. Clipboard features depend on browser support and permissions. Automatic sharing is optional; enable it only when you want clipboard content sent to the paired device.

The WebRTC channel is encrypted. A relay may forward encrypted traffic when required by network conditions. Encryption does not verify that a recipient is trustworthy or that a received file is safe to open.

Availability and retention

The service is provided as available. Connection sessions last up to one hour and may end earlier if a device disconnects or the service restarts. Direct transfer content is not stored by the CopyPaster server and cannot be recovered from it. Keep your own copy of anything you need.

Features, transfer limits, and rate limits may change. Private notes are separate from direct sharing and use the reading and expiry controls shown in that tool.
