Clipboard permissions and auto-share, explained

Understand paste and copy permissions, enable focused-tab text sharing, and find a reliable fallback when your browser blocks access.

1. Your browser controls clipboard access

A website cannot assume permission to read everything you copy. CopyPaster requests clipboard access when you use a relevant control, and the browser decides what is available. Use HTTPS and interact with the page when you want to paste or copy.

A rejected permission prompt does not mean pairing failed. Your devices can remain connected while clipboard access is blocked. You can still type in the shared text editor and select files normally.

2. Manual paste is the easiest starting point

Copy a short, non-sensitive sentence, click inside the shared editor, and use Ctrl+V on Windows or Linux, or Cmd+V on macOS. You can also use the Paste button if your browser permits programmatic clipboard reading.

On the other device, choose Copy to put the received text on that device’s clipboard. If the button is blocked, select the text and use the browser or operating system’s copy command. Received text appearing in the editor does not necessarily mean your system clipboard was overwritten.

3. Enable automatic text sharing deliberately

After pairing, choose Enable auto-share in Clipboard autopilot. The browser must grant clipboard-read permission that allows repeated reads. If it requires a fresh click for every read, the app will explain that manual Paste is needed.

When enabled, CopyPaster sends newly copied text while this tab is visible and focused. It does not monitor other applications continuously in the background, copy arbitrary files automatically, or continue after the page closes. Text sharing is limited to 20,000 characters.

Turn it off with Stop auto-share before copying passwords, recovery codes, or private information. Remember that the paired recipient can keep any text already sent. Stopping automatic sharing does not recall those copies.

4. Fix a blocked permission

  1. 1Check that you are using the HTTPS version of the site and the intended browser tab is active.
  2. 2Try the clipboard button again directly after clicking the page. Accept the browser’s prompt only if you want to share that clipboard content.
  3. 3Review this site’s clipboard permission in your browser’s site settings if it was previously blocked. Setting names and permission options differ by browser.
  4. 4If your browser does not offer persistent clipboard access, keep using manual paste and copy. File selection and downloads remain available without clipboard permission.

5. Images and files are a separate capability

Text support does not imply that every file format can be copied. CopyPaster supports clipboard image and text operations where the browser exposes them; PNG is the main image format for copying received content. For other formats, save the file to your device.

If you are troubleshooting, test with a short plain-text sentence first, then a small screenshot. This distinguishes a permission problem from a format or file-size limitation without risking a large transfer.
