How to Transfer Contacts Between Phones Without an App

Getting a new phone (or helping someone else move to one) usually raises the same question: how do I get my contacts across without installing some third-party app that wants access to everything? Same platform: the built-in way

Android to Android

If both phones are signed into the same Google account with Contacts sync enabled (Settings → Accounts → Google → Contacts sync), the same applies — contacts appear automatically on the new device after sign-in.

Cross-platform: iPhone to Android or Android to iPhone

This is where it gets less automatic, since iCloud and Google Contacts do not sync with each other directly by default.

Option 1: Export and import a vCard (.vcf) file

1. On the source phone, export contacts as a .vcf file — on iPhone through iCloud.com's Contacts section, or on Android through the Contacts app's export option.
2. Transfer that single file to the new phone.
3. Open the Contacts app on the new phone and import the .vcf file.

Option 2: A browser-based transfer for the .vcf file
